I am a scriptwriter, director and producer currently attached to TVS. Grateful for the opportunities given, I have been working on several telemovie projects as director and scriptwriter before and after I graduated from UNIMAS.
EKIN KEE CHARLES
kin Kee Charles is a filmmaker from Kota Marudu, Sabah. She is an alumnus of the BMW Shorties 13th Edition and “... and Action! Asia 4” in Japan. An evocative storyteller, she hopes to highlight more stories coming from the indigenous community with the purpose to paint more colors into the local film scene. Her short films have been a part of several film festivals such as Minikino, Cinema Rehiyon and Clermont Ferrand Short Film Market Pick.
Ekin believes that film is a form of creative documentation that helps preserve tradition through time. An alumnus from the Cinematography Program in UNIMAS, she was the Project Manager for the 15th edition of Mini Film Festival when the festival managed to go across Southeast Asia for the first time after 14 years of running.
JACKY YEAP
acky Yeap Swee Leong graduated from the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, majoring in filmmaking. He currently works at Da Huang Pictures under the supervision of Tan Chui Mui. He has contributed to organising film-related activities like FINAS Young Filmmaker Workshop, Astro Shortcut Workshop and SeaShorts Film Festival. In 2018, he and his friends had established a local film magazine name <WuBen>, to record the current state of Malaysian cinema. In 2020, he finished his first feature film entitled <Sometime, Sometime>. In 2021, he launched <Second Run Cine:ma> to advocate watching Malaysian films in cinema.
UMAR AKMAL
nterested mainly in storytelling and creative content development, Umar believes that filmmaking is one of the most genuine way of preserving memories and appreciating emotions. Umar Akmal is an alumnus from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) majoring in Cinematography. He aspire to become a good film and documentary director/writer. Throughout his study, he was involved in a lot of film competition and volunteering in film festival/seminar. His short film, Hembus (2020) that he co-wrote with the director Anel Sahfihie won a grant from Projek Dialog.
The film also won Best Film, Best Story, Best Cinematography and Audience Choice Award in Pesta Filem Kita 2020. He was also involved as a crew for a National Geographic documentary project by Happy Campers Production. He is currently working as a documentary video editor in Destinasi TV.
LIM HUI PING
im Hui Ping graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak in 2020. Now, Lim is a freelance filmmaker based in Johor.
In UNIMAS, Lim had led the Competition team in the 16th Mini Film Festival. A year before, she was the production designer responsible for the stage design for the 15th Mini Film Festival’s Awards Night. In 2021, she was appointed as a member of the selection committee for the 17th Mini Film Festival.
HIKMAH BEGUM
ikmah Begum is an alumnus of Cinematography UNIMAS and has undertaken a Master's degree in Media Studies at UM. She is currently working as Advertising & Promotion executive and freelance over the weekend, capturing people's once in a lifetime moments through the medium of film.
HERALD NYUMBANG
erald is a visual editor based in Kuching, Sarawak. He studied Cinematography in UNIMAS. Directed a short documentary, Aki' (2019), which was selected as Official Selection in Freedom Film Fest (2019), finalist for Best Short Documentary in International Moving Film Festival (2019) and selected to premiere in Kalimantan International Film Festival (2020). In continuation of his appointment as Selection Committee last year, he is again carrying this important role in 2022.
